
What is Healthy Families?
The Healthy Families
Program is a state and federally funded health coverage program
for children with family incomes above the no cost Medi-Cal income
level and still below 250% of the federal income guidelines ($3,578
per month for a family of three). Healthy Families is available
to children under the age 19, who are California residents, and
either U.S. citizens, nationals, or eligible qualified immigrants.
Healthy Families is a low-cost comprehensive health, dental and
vision insurance with monthly premiums ranging from $4 per child
to a maximum of $45 per family. Families may pay 3 months in advance
and receive the fourth month free. There are no co-payments for
preventive services (such as immunizations) and only a $5 co-payment
for non-preventive services (such as going to the doctor due to
illness).
Families can choose from the following five different health plans:
Santa Clara Family Health Plan; Blue Cross; Blue Shield; Health
Net; and Kaiser. They can also choose from the following three dental
plans: Access Dental; Delta Dental; and Denticare. Families will
receive vision care through the Vision Service Plan (VSP).
