Healthy Kids sign-ups
surpass expectations
San Jose - A Santa Clara County's program to
provide health
coverage to the county's uninsured children has exceeded
its
enrollment expectations in its first month.
The Healthy Kids program enrolled 660 children in January alone
while county health officials expected 600 in the first six months
of the program. Officials have not even begun publicizing the
program
yet.
"That was really without a lot of outreach into the community,"
Healthy Kids spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.
Healthy Kids is one of three parts of the county's ground-breaking
Children's Health Initiative, which is committed to providing
medical, dental and vision coverage to the county's 71,000
uninsured children using tobacco tax settlement money.
